Research Seminar:The ITAC from manager and PI perspectives

The ITAC stands for information technology academia collaboration. It is a department at ITIDA. Its vision is to bring value to the Egyptian ICT Industry by fostering collaboration between industry and academia aiming at developing R&D based innovative products and services that put Egyptian ICT companies in a leading position in the ICT market, both locally and internationally. This talk aims to present the different programs of ITAC, submission procedures, guidelines, and projects follow-up. It will aslo summarize the speaker expereince as an ex-PI for ITAC funded projects.


Amr M. E. Safwat (S’91–M’01-SM’17) received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering in 1993 and 1997, respectively, from Ain Shams University, the B.Sc. in Business in 1997, from Ain Shams University, and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA, in 2001.

From 2001 to 2002, he was with Cascade Microtech Inc., OR, USA. In 2002, he joined the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, Ain Shams University, where he is currently a full professor and department chair. In November 2016, he joined the information technology industry development agency (ITIDA), on part-time basis, as the manager of the information technology academia collaboration dept. (ITAC).
Prof. Safwat was a Visiting Professor at Otto-Von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany, in 2004, the Institute National Polytechnique de Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 2005, and the Radio Laboratory and MilliLab, University of Aalto, Espoo, Finland, from 2006 to 2007. His current research interests include metamaterial, microwave passive planar structures, and microwave photonics.

Prof. Safwat was a recipient of the Egyptian encouragement state prize for engineering sciences, in 2007 and 2014, and the first class medal of excellence from the president of Egypt in 2017
