A New Scientific Achievement at the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology: Manufacturing of the First Innovative Egyptian Robot with World-class Specifications
Prof. El-Gohary: Priority is given to applied research that can contribute to community service and find solutions to tackle industry problems
Prof. Mohamed Fanni, Professor at the Department of Mechatronics and Robotics Engineeringat the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology, affirmed the success of a research team at the University in manufacturing the first innovative industrial robot with international specifications using local components that are less expensive and more efficient than their imported counterparts.
He added that the new robot is distinguished by its unique structure that combines the advantages of serial robots in their large workspace and parallel robots in their speed and accuracy yet avoids their disadvantages. The robot uses rotational motors to obtain linear motions that have multiple industrial applications. He explained that rotary motors add a competitive advantage to the robot, as they are lower in cost than linear motors, do not require much maintenance and do not reduce areas of the robot’s workspace.
The robot uses a balance system that dramatically reduces the energy consumed to operate the robot and allows the use of small motors, which reduces the cost of the robot and makes it a strong competitor to the imported industrial robots on the market.
Prof. Mohamed confirmed the success of test operations. This robot can be used in multiple industrial sectors such as food industries, plastic industries, household appliances and the automobile industry. He further explained that this Egyptian invention will encourage many Egyptian investors to use it in modernizing the Egyptian industry because it is less expensive than comparable imports, in addition to the fact that spare parts and maintenance are locally available.
For his part, Prof. Ahmed El-Gohary, President of the Egypt-Japan University for Science and Technology, praised the efforts of the research team participating in the smart robot project and their success in manufacturing an innovative robot with Egyptian expertise and global specifications. He stressed his keenness to upgrade the scientific research system at the University and to provide scientific research that drives the economy forward. Therefore, he is determined to give priority to applied research that can contribute to community service and find solutions to tackle industry problems to support sustainable development.
