Opening ceremony of a new university campus uniting the memory of former JICA President OGATA Sadako
On Nov 18, 2019, the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), which was established and supported by JICA, held an opening ceremony for a new campus. Since 2008 JICA has been implementing technical cooperation projects for the university, which was established in 2010 based on bilateral agreements.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony, a moment of silence was offered in memory of former JICA President OGATA Sadako , who was involved in the establishment of E-JUST. Then in a speech by Ambassador Aboulnaga, the Chair of Board of Trustees in E-JUST and Advisor to the Egyptian President for National Security (former Minister of Planning and International Cooperation), she spoke about the close ties with Ms.Ogata.
In June 2010, Ms.Ogata attended the opening ceremony of E-JUST, which began as a graduate school. In 2017, the university began accepting undergraduates, and the first semester students were dubbed OGATA Sadako Student Batch. E-JUST is aiming for further development in the future, with the founding belief that it will be the “best university to produce science and technology human resources who will lead Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.”
