Welcome to E-JUST

Welcome to E-JUST, where you can enjoy unique international learning environment in Africa and the Middle East.
E-JUST was established in 2009, based on the agreement between the Egyptian and the Japanese governments. Since the university first days E-JUST was given full autonomy to be a university of excellence in all dimensions, thanks to the full support provided from the relevant authorities from Egypt and Japan.
E-JUST consider the excellence and the continuous enhancement in all its activities, research, teaching and learning, and community services. As being research oriented higher education institute, E-JUST acknowledge the satisfactory achievements of the university researchers that have never being preceded in Egypt, when calculated as scientific production per scholar. This includes internationally scientific publications and innovative patents.Read more

10. Aims:
This training course as the first series of the training program aims to allow the attendees to gain basic knowledge of the history of photography in general and in Japan in particular. Trainees will understand the photographic processes, its development, materials, popularity, and the characteristics of each process. The course will provide fundamental knowledge on deterioration aspects of photographic materials caused by environmental factors and risk assessment. Surveying, condition assessment of photograph collections will be explored with general preview of the code of ethics for the conservation/preservation. Scientific documentation is also important contents for the training course and trainees will understand its principle and practice with some scientific equipment.
Note: It is planned that the course will be followed by a second serious including theoretical and practical knowledge of conservation treatments for photographs with informed, scientific and well assessed decision making. Simulation of Emergency preparedness and response to reduce and mitigate the risk in case of disasters and how to deal with the collection after disasters will be also introduced with enhanced accessibility.

11. Methodology
The course will be delivered through interactive presentations, hands-on, and practical sessions using portable equipment (such as Colorimetry/ Microscopy / Normal, raking, specular, and UV light observation / Multi-Spectral Imaging / FTIR and NIR (Fourier-Transform Infrared and Near Infrared Spectroscopy).
Hands-on will include:
– Investigation of different types of photographic prints to identify the photographic processes, structure, the photosensitive materials and support layers and their deterioration condition for assessment using microscopy and IR spectroscopy.
– Digitization of photographs with different lighting techniques, processing of the captured images (color management), creating master image file and other images for access, and file naming for data management of the digital files.
