Accounting and Information Systems Graduate Program
About the program

The graduate program in accounting and information systems is an intensive multidisciplinary program that is unique among Egyptian Universities. The program is designed for those who are pursuing an academic career as faculty members and professionals who intend to enhance their careers in accounting and information systems. It involves a comprehensive study of interdisciplinary methods, theories, and research in the areas of accounting and information systems, and choices of various electives covering a wide range of related subjects.

Programs Offered

E-JUST offers two graduate programs in accounting and information systems:

  1. Master of Science (M.Sc.) in AIS,
  2. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in AIS.

Students who aspire to doctoral study in accounting and information systems but need to strengthen their background may wish to consider our M.Sc., which admits both part-time and full-time students. Students in this program take many of the same courses as our doctoral students and may use these courses towards their doctoral degree if they are later admitted to the doctoral program

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in AIS
Admission Requirements:

Age

Applicants should be under 30 years on Sep. 1, 2019.

  • A research proposal in the area of specialization

English language proficiency

A student, whose native language is not English, are required to provide an official evidence of English language proficiency. A minimum score of 79 in the TOEFL IBT; or 6.5 in the IELTS test is required for admission.

Educational background

A student should hold a bachelor degree or equivalent in accounting and/or information systems with a minimum CGPA of 2.3 or equivalent, from an Egyptian university or any other academic institution (in Egypt or abroad) recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) in Egypt.

Duration of study

Students should complete their master’s degree in 2 years as a minimum.

Admission Exams

A Student should pass successfully all entrance examinations and interviews before admission to the program.

  1. General accounting written exam: will cover the basics of accounting in general (30% of total grade) (one hour).
  2. Specialized accounting written exam: will cover the area of specialization (30% of total grade) (one hour).
  3. Interview: will focus on the applicant’s communication and presentation skills in addition to his/her knowledge in the area of specialization and research ability. The applicant will give a presentation for 15 minutes using PPT for his/her research proposal. (40% of total grade)

Based on the student’s credentials and performance in the admission test and interview the admission committee might require the student to take some deficiency courses that should be taken before starting the program.

Degree Requirements:
  • To obtain the M.Sc. Degree, a student should successfully complete 27 credit hours of course work (7 compulsory core courses, 3-credits each; and 3 elective courses, 2-credits each) and prepares, and successfully defends a master thesis that counts for 9 credit hours.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.3 (C+) in each course and a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (B) in all course-work, are required.
  • Publishing at least one original paper in a specialized refereed journal (paper acceptance is sufficient), or in a specialized international conference approved by the School Council, is a prerequisite condition before forming the Thesis examination committee.
  • After completion of all course work, a student should prepare, and successfully defend, a master thesis.
Doctor of Philosophy Degree
Admission Requirements:

English language proficiency

A student, whose native language is not English, are required to provide an official evidence of English language proficiency. A minimum score of 79 in the TOEFL IBT; or 6.5 in the IELTS test is required for admission. This requirement is considered fulfilled if a student received another university degree from an English taught program.

Educational background

A student should hold a master’s degree in accounting and/or information systems from an accredited university with a minimum CGPA of 3,0 on a 4-point scale, or equivalent from an Egyptian university or any other academic institution (in Egypt or abroad) recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) in Egypt.

Duration of study

Students should complete their Ph.D. degree in 3 years as a minimum.

Admission Exams

A Student should pass successfully all entrance examinations and interviews before admission to the program.

  1. Accounting written exam: will cover the basics of accounting and that of field of specialization (60% of grade) (2 hours)
  2. Interview: will focus on the applicant’s communication and presentation skills in addition to his/her knowledge in the area of specialization and research ability. The applicant will give a presentation for 15 minutes using PPT for his/her research proposal. (40% of grade)

Based on the student’s credentials and performance in the admission test and interview the admission committee might require the student to take some deficiency courses that should be taken before starting the program.

Graduation Requirements:
  • A student should complete all required courses with a minimum cumulative grade average of (B).
  • Publishing at least two original papers in a specialized refereed journal (paper acceptance is sufficient), or in a specialized international conference approved by the School Council, is a prerequisite condition before forming the Thesis examination committee.
  • Upon completion of the course work, student should pass a written comprehensive exam in the field of specialization. The exam consists of two papers: the first is in the general field of specialization, while the second is in the specific area the student intends to write his/her dissertation in. A student has a maximum of two chances to pass the exam.
  • After successfully completing the written comprehensive exam, the student should pass an oral exam in his/her area of specialization.
  • After the student passes the oral exam, he/she should prepare a Ph.D. dissertation in a topic approved by the academic department and Faculty Council. The dissertation is expected to be completed within a period between three to four semesters. A maximum of two extensions, one semester each, may be approved by the Faculty Council upon the recommendation of the student’s supervisory committee.
