Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology Hosts Symposium on Sustainable Urban Development with UN-Habitat Egypt

Prof. Amr Adly, President of Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), welcomed representatives from the UN-Habitat Egypt Office on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, for a symposium titled "Sustainable Urban Development: Egypt's Experience." The event, organized by E-JUST's Sustainable Architecture program, focused on Egypt's progress in sustainable development and served as a precursor to the upcoming World Urban Forum (WUF12), set to take place in Cairo from November 4-8, 2024. The symposium began with an online presentation by Prof. Hashimoto, E-JUST's Vice President for Regional Affairs, followed by opening remarks from Prof. Amr Adly. Prof. Mohamed El-Sioufi, an urban development advisor specializing in sustainable urban development, housing, and slum upgrading, was also invited by Prof. Adly to the event. With over 40 years of experience advising central and local governments and teaching in academia. Key presentations were delivered by Dr. Ahmed Rezk, UN-Habitat's Country Director, and Dr. Ahmed Dorghamy, Program Officer, who discussed sustainable urban development initiatives in Egypt. E-JUST academics also shared their experiences in addressing climate change and urbanization challenges. The symposium featured participation from numerous universities, including Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, Alexandria University, and Pharos University, with their academic staff actively contributing to the discussions.
