Egypt Japan University Organizes an Orientation Day for New Students

On Sunday, Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology organized an Orientation Day for new students to introduce them to the Japanese model in education, academic programs offered by faculties of the university, student activities, and to answer any inquiries in the presence of Prof. Amr Adly, President of the University, Prof. Masaki Suzuki, First Vice President of Regional and International Affairs, Prof. Sameh Nada, Vice President of Educational and Academic Affairs, and the deans of the various faculties, faculty members and the Director of JICA office at the University. In his speech, Prof. Amr Adly welcomed new students of the University explaining that it is the first research based governmental university entirely owned by the Egyptian Government, as well as being the first university to bear Japan’s name outside its borders; established based on an agreement of cultural cooperation between Egypt and Japan that was signed in 1983. He stated that the University in its policy depends on benefiting from the Japanese model in active learning that depends on experimentation, innovation and scientific research. The University has unmatched laboratories in the Middle East equipped with the latest technological devices in the world indicating that the notion of establishing Egypt Japan University is to use the Japanese educational systems and academic concepts based on laboratory methods in learning and project-based education. He added that the University places priority on preparing qualified graduates to compete in the labour market, locally and internationally, by offering academic programs that keep pace with changes in labour market needs and qualify for future jobs. Referring to the University's eagerness to support and nurture creative and innovative students in all fields including science, sports, arts and literature the students are guided diligently to achieving success as they present hope for the future. For his part, Prof. Sameh Nada, Vice President of Educational and Academic Affairs, welcomed the new students announcing that 1124 new students were accepted for this academic year, selected from 5200 applicants. He stated that E-JUST offers a world-class education and noted the importance of student activities in a student’s development. Activities during the Orientation Day at the University included introducing students to faculty members of both Egyptian and Japanese sides and deans of the various faculties presented the offered academic programs. In addition, new students participated in a number of recreational activities organized by the Student Union.
