Prof. Hany Helal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), has issued a decision appointing Prof. Ahmed El-Sabbagh as President of the University, effective 1 July 2026, following the approval of Prof. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Prof. El-Sabbagh succeeds Prof. Amr Adly, whose presidential term concluded on 30 June 2026.
The appointment follows the successful completion of the presidential selection process in accordance with the University’s governing regulations. The Board of Trustees supervised the process through a selection committee comprising Egyptian and Japanese members. The process included an open call for applications, comprehensive evaluation of candidates’ academic and administrative credentials, personal interviews, and presentations outlining their strategic visions for the University’s future development, culminating in the selection of Prof. Ahmed El-Sabbagh as President of E-JUST.
The official Presidential Handover Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the University’s campus in Borg El Arab, in the presence of distinguished public officials, university presidents, and prominent public figures.
The Board of Trustees, chaired by Prof. Hany Helal, expressed its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Prof. Amr Adly for his distinguished leadership and dedicated service during his presidency from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2026. Throughout his tenure, E-JUST further strengthened its position as one of the leading research universities in Egypt and the region.
Under Prof. Amr Adly’s leadership, the University achieved significant milestones, including enhanced performance in prestigious international university rankings, expanded academic and research partnerships with Japanese and international institutions, the introduction of new academic programs, strengthened research, innovation, and entrepreneurship ecosystems, deeper collaboration with industry, and increased international engagement through the attraction of a growing number of students and researchers from around the world. These achievements further reinforced E-JUST’s position as a distinguished model of Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in higher education and scientific research.
Prof. Ahmed El-Sabbagh has served as Vice President for Education and Academic Affairs since October 2025. He is a Professor of Materials Engineering with more than three decades of distinguished academic, research, and administrative experience in materials engineering, scientific research, higher education development, and international collaboration.
Throughout his career, Prof. El-Sabbagh has held several academic and leadership positions at Ain Shams University, Clausthal University of Technology in Germany, and Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST). He has participated in the implementation of more than 20 collaborative research projects in Egypt and Germany, authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications, written three scientific books, and delivered over 30 invited lectures at international scientific conferences.
For four consecutive years, Prof. El-Sabbagh has been recognized among Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Most Influential Scientists. He has also received several prestigious scientific awards, including the ICNF Award (Portugal, 2015) and the Egyptian State Encouragement Award in Engineering Sciences (2010).
Since 2016, Prof. El-Sabbagh has actively participated in the Executive Committees of the Supreme Council of Universities, contributing to the development of engineering education programs, the establishment of non-profit national universities, and the modernization of educational laboratories through international partnerships. He also served as Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Technical and Technological Education from 2023 to 2024 and currently serves as Director of the Projects Development Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The Board of Trustees expressed its full confidence in Prof. Ahmed El-Sabbagh’s ability to build upon the University’s remarkable achievements and continue advancing E-JUST’s trajectory of excellence. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening the University’s regional and international standing while supporting its mission of preparing globally competitive graduates and contributing to Egypt’s national objectives in higher education, scientific research, innovation, and sustainable development.
