Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) celebrated the appointment of Professor Ahmed El-Sabbagh as President of the University, during an official handover ceremony from Professor Amr Adly to Professor Ahmed El-Sabbagh.
The ceremony was attended by H.E. Ambassador Fayza Aboulnage, Advisor to the President of the Republic for National Security, former Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and former Chair of E-JUST’s Board of Trustees; Professor Hany Helal, Chair of the Board of Trustees and former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; H.E. Ambassador Fumio Iwai, Ambassador of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt; and Ms. Yuko Mitsui, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), who participated via videoconference. The event was also attended by members of the University’s Board of Trustees from the Egyptian and Japanese sides, along with a number of university presidents, public figures, faculty members, researchers, and students.
In his remarks during the inauguration ceremony, Professor Hany Helal, Chair of the Board of Trustees, affirmed that the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology represents one of the most successful models of strategic cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt and Japan in the fields of higher education and scientific research. He noted that E-JUST embodies a shared vision based on the belief that investing in people is the true foundation for building the future.
He added that the University has become a distinguished model of a research-oriented university that combines quality education, academic excellence, and innovation, while contributing to the preparation of highly qualified scientific cadres capable of competing regionally and internationally.
Professor Helal explained that the University’s distinguished academic and research standing is the result of the continuous support of the political leadership in both Egypt and Japan, as well as close cooperation with JICA, which has played a pivotal role in transferring Japanese expertise, supporting capacity building, and developing academic and research programs. He also commended the valuable contributions of E-JUST’s Japanese partner universities, which have helped establish the University as a successful model of international partnership in higher education and a reflection of the deep historical relations between the two friendly countries.
Professor Hany Helal also expressed his sincere appreciation to Professor Amr Adly, former President of the University, praising his dedicated efforts and distinguished leadership, which contributed to consolidating E-JUST’s position as one of the leading research universities. He affirmed that, during Professor Adly’s presidency, the University witnessed significant progress in academic and research performance, expanded its international partnerships, advanced in global rankings, and strengthened cooperation with Japanese universities and international research institutions. These achievements, he said, have laid a solid foundation for a new phase of growth and excellence, and represent an important legacy on which the University will continue to build.
The Chair of the Board of Trustees emphasized that the coming phase represents a continuation of E-JUST’s successful journey. He expressed his confidence in Professor Ahmed El-Sabbagh’s ability to lead the University toward broader horizons of excellence and leadership, strengthen its role as a hub for innovation and scientific research, and reinforce its position as a bridge for academic cooperation between Egypt and Japan. He added that this supports Egypt’s vision for building a knowledge-based economy and enhances the University’s standing among leading research universities worldwide.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Professor Hany Helal read the decision of the University’s Board of Trustees appointing Professor Ahmed El-Sabbagh as President of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology, wishing him success in leading the University and continuing the path of achievements and success it has pursued since its establishment.
For his part, Professor Amr Adly, former President of E-JUST, reviewed the key achievements realized during his tenure. He highlighted the University’s development in education and scientific research, its progress in international rankings, and the expansion of academic and research partnerships with leading universities and institutions worldwide, which further strengthened its position as a leading research university. At the end of his speech, he extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to faculty members, researchers, staff, and students.
Professor Ahmed El-Sabbagh, President of E-JUST, expressed his deep pride in the trust placed in him by the University’s Board of Trustees. He affirmed that this appointment represents a national responsibility that requires continued efforts to enhance the University’s standing as a leading model of academic and research cooperation between Egypt and Japan, while building on the achievements realized over the past years. He stressed that E-JUST possesses all the capabilities needed to move forward into a new phase of excellence.
Professor El-Sabbagh affirmed that the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology embodies a unique model of strategic partnership between the Arab Republic of Egypt and Japan, resulting in a pioneering academic and research experience that combines Egyptian scientific excellence with Japanese expertise in quality, innovation, and discipline.
He also expressed his deep appreciation for the continuous support provided by the Japanese partners, particularly JICA and the Japanese partner universities, stressing that this partnership represents a key pillar in continuing the University’s journey and strengthening its position regionally and internationally.
Professor Ahmed El-Sabbagh also praised the significant efforts exerted by Professor Amr Adly during his presidency of the University. He affirmed that the successes and achievements realized during the past period represent a strong foundation on which the new administration will build. He added that the coming phase will be based on teamwork and on maximizing the benefit of the University’s scientific and human capabilities, in a way that advances its mission of serving society, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, and consolidating its position as one of the leading research universities in the region.
The ceremony concluded with commemorative photos featuring members of the Board of Trustees and distinguished guests, in an atmosphere that reflected the depth of the Egyptian-Japanese partnership and the shared commitment to continuing support for the University and advancing its academic and research mission as one of the leading scientific institutions.
