Prof. Amr Adly, President of Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), announced the launch of the TICAD 9 African Scholarship and Postdoctoral Fellowship for STI, in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The program aims to support African students and researchers in the fields of science, technology and innovation, within the framework of the Egyptian-Japanese partnership dedicated to advancing development and building human capacity across the African continent.
Prof. Adly stated that the program will run from September 2026 to September 2031, with the objective of preparing distinguished African cadres in science, technology and innovation. This will be achieved through providing scholarships for Master’s and PhD students from various African countries, in addition to offering short-term research visit opportunities to Japan for PhD students, as well as postdoctoral fellowships for African researchers.
The E-JUST President emphasized that the TICAD 9 Program represents a new milestone in the longstanding Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in higher education and scientific research. He noted that the program reflects the university’s growing role as a regional platform for supporting scientific and research capacity-building in Africa.
He added that the program provides advanced educational and research opportunities for African students and researchers, contributing to the development of a new generation capable of harnessing science, technology and innovation to serve sustainable development in their home countries. He further highlighted that, through this program, E-JUST continues to build bridges of academic and research cooperation between Egypt, Japan and African countries.
Prof. Adly also pointed out that the program strengthens the international scientific cooperation network and supports the development of a community of African researchers connected with Japanese academic and research institutions, thereby contributing to innovation and development across the continent.
For his part, Mr. Yu Ebisawa, Chief Representative of JICA Egypt Office, affirmed that the launch of the program comes as an extension of the fruitful cooperation between JICA and E-JUST, and in support of efforts to develop human resources in Africa.
He stated that JICA highly values its partnership with E-JUST, noting that the TICAD 9 Program provides distinguished educational and research opportunities for African students and researchers. He added that the program will enable participants to acquire advanced knowledge and expertise, strengthen academic and research ties between Africa and Japan, and support innovation and sustainable development efforts.
The launch of the program reaffirms the distinguished position of Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology as a regional hub for higher education and scientific research, as well as its role in promoting triangular cooperation between Egypt, Japan and Africa through educational and research programs aimed at investing in human capital and supporting sustainable development across the African continent.
